Airport Construction Tenant Updates
On July 10, 2007, the Port commenced FAA Phase II of the Runway 17/35 Line-of-Sight and Runway Rehabilitation Construction Project. Phase II will complete work on the area of Runway 17/35, north of Runway 8/26. Phase III work south of Runway 8/26 is scheduled for 2008.
A section of runway 17/35 was last paved in 1980. The runway is experiencing stress in the forms of longitudinal and transverse cracking and weathering.
The first project goal is to rehabilitate existing runway surfaces. The project will excavate, grade, compact and repave the runway. In the process, we will correct runway gradient deficiencies, install a full-length runway sub-drainage system, replace the MIRL with HIRL, and groove the runway for improved aircraft performance.
The second goal of the project is to correct the line of sight deficiency. Runway design criteria establish a 5 ft. high line-of-sight visibility standard. This means that any two points, five feet above the runway must be mutually visible for at least ½ the runway length.
The third goal of the project is to construct a runway cross-section to adequately support the existing & forecast fleet mix of aircraft that use the airport.
The following updates are designed to convey to the airport stakeholders the most current information or changes during construction. Thank you for your patience during this disruptive process.
